We love Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar, who could resist such a brilliant and well loved story.

For a creative and educational topic alongside this wonderful book, how about making your own Very Hungry Caterpillar collage made mostly of leaves!

We love the realistic look of the caterpillar and it really is so very easy to make.

All you'll need is; PVA glue or glue stick, a selection of leaves and display paper or card.

We collected various leaves and sorted them into sizes and colours. We think different coloured leaves create the best look but you really can use whatever you can find.

After sorting the leaves, we took each one, gave it a little trim with scissors, if needed and then carefully placed them all onto the card, before gluing anything. This is a good idea to make sure you have the correct look and of course to make sure they all fit onto your card!

Once you're happy with the shape and look of your caterpillar, you can begin sticking each leaf.

We started at the tail end and carefully stick each leaf onto the next.

For the eyes and mouth, we cut out small circles from contrasting leaves. The little feet were again leaves, cut into sort of shoe shapes.

You could use anything for the antennae, we chose to use some craft feathers.

As a last little touch, we cut an apple shape from another leaf, used a whole punch to make a 'nibble' hole and added the stalk using a black marker.

We hope you love this gorgeous leaf caterpillar as much as we do and if you do have a go, hope you'll have as much fun as we did creating it.

Why not create the 'beautiful butterfly' using coloured tissue paper, that may be our next project!

We'd love to see any of your creations, large or small. Please do send them to us via Facebook, Twitter or email.
